One of the main conditions we treat at Foundation is “plantar fasciitis” or heel pain. It is an incredibly common (and annoying) issue for active people who participate in a variety of activities/sports. If your heel pain is preventing you from living your best life or hitting that PR, don’t waste anymore time and get evaluated today to see if these strategies will work for you!
- Myofascial release: Deep tissue massage, graston, or active release of the muscles is often a simple and effective method to reduce muscle tension in your lower body (hips, knees, calves, ankles and feet) thus reducing stress on your plantar fascia! Less tension in your muscles can allow you to move more freely when exercising, and may also reduce the poor movement quality that likely caused the “plantar fasciitis” in the first place.
- Nerve Flossing: The funny thing about treating heel/foot pain that is often misdiagnosed as “plantar fasciitis”. There are several nerves that travel from your lower back all the way down to your feet and supply strength and feeling to your legs and feet. If these are compressed by tight muscles or joints in your back, it can actually cause heel pain that almost perfectly mimics typical plantar fasciitis symptoms. These exercises are quite simple and HIGHLY effective if nerve pain is the cause of your heel pain. IMPORTANT: To determine if nerve flossing could help you, get evaluated by your health care professional prior to treating yourself.
- Exercise: Corrective exercise to strengthen your lower back, core, hips, knees, and feet often helps reduce undue stress on your feet and plantar fascia. Corrective exercise can also improve your form with various activities such as running, hiking, skiing, cycling, etc. With an individualized training program you will achieve more strength, endurance, and improved technique, and the pain you experience in you heel can be eliminated very quickly!
All of these services are offered at Foundation Chiropractic and Sports Therapy. If you or your friends/family suffer from heel/foot pain schedule an assessment today and get back to living your best life!
